I am planning on visiting Norway in June and am want to travel from Oslo to Bergen by rail including a trip on the Flaam railway.
I have been looking at both the NSB website and the flaamsbana website.
Does anyone know if the Myrsdal to Flaam segment of the trip from Oslo to Flam, advertised on the NSB website is identitical to the Myrsdal to Flaam offered on www.flaamsbana.no? I'm guessing it is exactly the same line but is the same train used?

The train ride from Oslo to Bergen, goes past Myrdal station, but the ride down the Flam valley is not included in the trip, and exactly the same railway and the same train is used. That part of the line from Myrdal to Flam is a private firm, and if you are using a rail pass you would need to pay a supplement. You want to travel from Oslo to Bergen, and go to Flam and back on the same day? Could i suggest going Oslo to Bergen that will take most of the day, and the next day do the 'Norway in a nutshell' tour from Bergen? It features a train ride to Myrdal, a train ride down the scenic Flam Valley, a lunch stop at Flam, a ferry ride along a Fjord, a really interesting bus ride, afternoon tea/coffee stop at Voss, then a train back for an early evening arriveal at Bergen, it is very highly recomended indeed.

Thanks for the tip. Am looking into Norway in a nutshell.
I was originally thinking of going from Oslo to Flaam on the train, staying over night in a youth hostel in Flaam, then cataching the train from Flaam to Bergen the following day (with a stop for a couple of hours at Voss).

We went from Oslo to Flam, stayed at the hostel there (nice place to stay!) and then took a ferry around the fjords to Bergen. I'd highly recommend that.

I did not know that a ferry ran from Flam directly to Bergen, but it is quite a time since we were there, is it a new thing?

A quick reply to your original question:

Does anyone know if the Myrdal to Flåm segment of the trip from Oslo to Flåm, advertised on the NSB website is identitical to the Myrdal to Flåm offered on www.flaamsbana.no? I'm guessing it is exactly the same line but is the same train used?

Yes, it is the same train used. What NSB offers you is to buy one ticket for both segments.
