Campervan travel in Norway

Hi all,
We are planning to drive from France (where we will hire a campervan) all the way through to Alesund (and back) - and yes, I know that many of you will think that we're nuts - but it ends up being the cheaper way to go.
Anyway - just wondering if any of you have travelled by campervan in Norway?
What are the roads like (reading the LP guide, it says there are few passing lanes, and that tolls are pricey).
But in the guidebook, there is a tiny bit of info about driving a rental car, but nothing about campervans.
How easy is travel in them in Norway?
ie waste disposal stations, places (be they actual campervan/RV stops) to stop and stay the night (can you stop anywhere (within reason)), etc.

We are a family of 4 (2a, 2c), and this is going to be the cheaper way to do it - as we need to get to Alesund to meet friends.

Sorry but i doubt it is cheaper with petrol and tolls. But if you explained your trip more clearly maybe we can help more. Are you going to France first or just to hire the campervan to drive to Norway.

Hi there,
We are doing a whirlwind trip of some of Eutope (Flying into England, going through France, Germany, then Denmark up to Norway (and back)). We have family in Germany and Norway - and taking into account accomodation costs and travel costs (ie other than a campervan - so trains/bus/flights), a campervan is the cheapest way. That way we can travel and have our accomodation catered for (and yes, have looked at flights - and also the hassle factor when transferring to train/bus etc (there are no trains to Alesund at all)).
Hubby and I have travelled through Germany/Denmark before in rental cars - but not in Norway (we flew into Oslo last time and ferry and trained to Bergen).
We are travelling in Sep/Oct for 5 weeks total (so yes, whirlwind trip, and will be planning a future trip).
Main reasons for trip are to give the kids a taste of Europe, see some of the sights and catch up with friends/family in Germany and in Alesund, Norway.

No problems with campervans here in Norway.
There are few RV stops only, mostly campsites, although some exists:
http://bobilportal.no/bobilparkering-norge/ (in norwegian but gives you adresses)

Wherever parking is legal, you can park your camper and stay the night. Try to find small roads close to lakes, there will be spots to stop.

In Norway it is allowed to use the countryside as you please: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freedom_to_roam it is your right

driving around in Norway is no problem. Max speed for all cars is 80 km, so you will fit in ;)

you can park and stay almost everywhere (if not a sign will tell you so). There are plenty of campings around where you can stop for waste and water if needed.
It's beautiful. So don't worry and enjoy!

I have found it a better deal to rent a camping car/motorhome in Germany than in France.

No problems with motorhomes in Norway.

In Norway you are allowed to park and over night in most stop and rest areas along moterways and roads but only for one night. Most petrol stations have water and Waste desposil.
