Prices are quite high in Bergen compared to the rest of Norway and rooms are in shorter supply in the summer months as self and GF found out int he summer of 2011.
One chain that reduces its prices over the summers months is the Thon Hotel chain. We've stayed in Bergen (Thon Rosenkrantz?) that's near Bryggen in 2005 and in others at Arendal and Oslo in 2011 - the latter were part of the reduced price promotions that Thon implemented over that summer.
All were clean, comfortable with ensuite and had a decent breakfast spread plus free coffee and internet access too. The last place we used in Bergen wasn't a Thon, was rather pricey and didn't come with breakfast either - an independent rather than a chain! Have visited Norway 11 times now and there's only two hotel rooms that I've stayed in which had a bath in a bathroom by the way - showers are more commonly found, although some have been along the corridor and around the corner in a couple of places...
Good place to eat in Bergen is Pygmalion near what was the old tourist information hall - small place that is next to the central YMCA.
Bergen Card is a worthwhile purchase if you're visiting museums and using public transport, but walking around is the best way to see Bergen (apart from a trip up the Floibanen funicular railway - great way to see the city spread out below you, especially around dusk).
