Hello,

I will be flying into and out of Bodo in order to reach the Lofoten Islands. We will get into Bodo on a Friday afternoon and then can get into Svolvaer later that night by Ferry. Then, we have all of Saturday, Sunday, and Monday on the islands. On Monday night, we are thinking of taking the late night Hurtigruten from Lofoten Islands to Bodo for a "Midnight Cruise". Our flight leaves from Bodo on Tuesday night. For those familiar with the area, how would you spend those three full days in Lofoten? We would like to get a Rorbu (heard Reine is nice), hike, maybe some deep sea fishing, and just anything with adventure. I also heard that it may be necessary to rent a car. What do you think? Do we need to book anything in advance? Thanks for your input.

Two years ago in August we did a similar trip. We rented a car from Budget rent a car in the Bodo airport, and then drove to the harbor and took the ferry to Lofoten - I think we went to Moskenes - just below Reines. We did not have any reservations and had no trouble fining a rorbu. People had signs on the road with rorbu for rent. There are travelers brochures, complete with hiking trails. I also did a lot of internet searching, so had quite a bit of information before we got there. The scenery was spectacular, and although we stayed three days, I easily could have spent a week.

Reine is heavenly, but it is a couple of hours drive from Svolvaer. If you want to go to Reine, take the ferry to Moskenes instead. I also highly recommend renting a car or bringing a bicycle. Even if you never leave the island of Moskenesoy, you'll be glad that you had it.
