Rent 4X4 ASAP in Akureyri

I'd like to know the name, (and location) of the car rental agency (simple 4X4) in Akureyri to rent a vehicle for a 2-3 week period, for a full ring road trip, (open saturdays). In July my wife and I will drive around Iceland in a 2WD rental car. I have done lots of planning but cannot see the best way to get from Breiodalsvik to Egilsstadir. Should we go around the coast or up highway 1?? We don't have unlimited time but want to see as many of the beautiful natural sights as possible.
Secondly, do you think we will need to book ahead this year, given the volcano problems or should we able to get accomodation by just booking around lunchtime each day?

I am travelling to Iceland this september 15th for 10 days. I would like to do some trek (if possible in the area of Thorsmork or Landmanalaugar) but I´ve been looking on line the bus schedule and stops operating before that dates.
I got the feeling that my options will be limited as I won´t have access to that area and others.
