This may sounds like a silly question ... i am wondering if my iPhone compass will work in Iceland. We will be using it (in airplane mode) all around the ring road and especially up around Husavik and Lake Myvatn. Has anyone successfully used their iPhone compass up there?
Hey everyone, I just bought a flight to Iceland for 40 days and am planning trekking and camping as much as possible and had a few questions.
I plan on using the bus system which I know is great as well as hitchhiking. My main questions lie in two categories: Local knowledge and Supplies
Local knowledge: I have read and heard that icelanders are extremely helpful but my main question is, are they knowledgeable, in general, about remote trekking. I've spent time in other countries where…
Hello
We’ll be in Reykjavik for three nights in July.
Our plan is to go to the Blue Lagoon on our way from the airport on the day we arrive, and that leaves us with two full days. We’re going to do a Golden Circle tour and I’m also interested in seeing the South Coast, but I also want to have some time in Reykjavik itself!
Would people recommend doing a day tour on one day and having the other day in Reykjavik, or maybe do a half day Golden Circle tour and a full day South Coast tour? Also…
Does anybody have any information about the Ferry that will run from Bakki to Vestmannaeyjar? I was informed that it is scheduled to open this summer but can not find any information on it.
Thanks

So, I've never been to Iceland, but have wanted to go for years.
I have 11 days on the ground from 6/26 through 7/7.
My initial plan was to get around by bus, but as I look into it further it seems a bit costly and time constraining.
Also, I was considering an inter-island flight to cover some ground and save time.
This is the current itinerary:
Sat 6/26: Land in Reykjavik 6am, immediately catch the 8:30 bus to Landmannalaugar.
Spend the day/night hiking/camping in…
Hi,
I'm visiting Iceland at the end of this month. I'll be renting a car and drive around Golden Circle for 2 days. Does anyone know or could suggest places to stay in Golden Circle? Where would be the best place to stop for a night before driving back Reykjavik?
Thanks!
This may seem a bit odd to some, but here I go...
My dad has been a keen traveller all his life and had been dreaming about going to Iceland for quite some time already. So I took him there on the occasion of his 70th birthday. Having done my homework on Iceland and talking to people who had already been I figured 10 days would be a good time span for us to take in the major attractions in a leisurely way. The thing is...we have been on the road for 5 days now and have almost made it around the…
Hello,
I'm travelling to Iceland in August.
The crown is now at 157.5 ISK for each euro, an increase of 14% since the beginning of this year alone (when it was above 185 ISK/€). The trend is supposed to maintain like this so it's reasonable to think that the exchange rate will be even much worse in August...

Luckily, I have already paid a big percentage of my trip-budget (flights, car rental, 90% of…
A new free service - MOS-BUS - has been started in Mosfellsbaer (a part of Great Reykjavik area). The bus operates four times a day from June 1 till August 31. The bus will drive to the Esja mountain as well as to several other trails and places of interest. And it's connected to the Bus No 15 from Reykjavik so shouldn't be a problem to catch it. Keeping in mind that Bus 15 passes almost all Reykjavik from West to East and stops at major hotels and bus exchanges - this might be a very good way…
