Hello,

A friend and I are planning to do the Fimmvörðuháls hike on likely September 1st, in one day. I will have a rental car, and since the hike is not a loop, I will have to leave my car in Þórsmörk, and then assume I can take a bus from Skogar back to Þórsmörk at the end. Does anyone have any advice on how to do this?

I saw a bus schedule here, but it looks like the last day the bus runs is August 31st - is this true, and is this the only bus company that runs? Alternatively, is hitch…

My husband an I are going to be in Iceland the first week of September. We are planning on doing the circle route. From the circle route we are hopping to make a few detours to get off the beaten path. We are bringing, tents, sleeping bags and considering a stove. Please help with ideas.

Some of the thing we know we want to do are.

  1. Camp in a desolate area - not just campsites..ie you hike in to camp, or at least off a desolate road
  2. Puffins - I need to see puffins :)!
  3. Hike into some…

Hi All,
My wife and I are going to Iceland in 2 weeks for a 11 days road trip and we will be touring the natural hot pots this wonderful country has to offer (I heard nothing better after a long hiking day!).
Do you guys recommend to wear swimming shoes when bathing in natural hot pools/pots/rivers? http://www.cressiswim.com/easyUp/2009store/0273_3_V01_C01_S.jpg

Same question for Blue Lagoon, is it a pool tiled floor or lava rock at the bottom?

Thanks in advance for sharing your experience!

Hello all.

We will be travelling in the SE of Iceland and on our way back to Reykjavik from Skaftafell, we have a day spare to do a day hike in the area. I know it is barely enough time to see all the magnificence this area has to offer. Could anyone recommend good day hikes 4-8hours in the areas around Lakigigar, Landmannalaugar or Þórsmörk? Which one would be the most accessible from the Ring Road?

Also I know that the 'F-roads' around there are mostly out of limits to non 4-WDs. What is…

Hello everyone!

My boyfriend and I are from Canada and we are planning a week trip to Iceland. We are going to be fly into Reykjavik and be doing day trips out the city and might even travel south down to Vic. We are wondering the best place to stay for a couple of nights in Reykjavik. Our budget is moderate. We were thinking of either staying in a hostel, budget hotel, or bed and breakfast. We would like our own room though during our stay. Any suggestions would be great. I've have been…

Hey! I am planning a trip to Iceland in November. Any suggestions on what to visit in this time of the year (as some of the roads may already be blocked because of the weather?). Tks.

Hello,

My partner and I are taking our 6 and 7 year-old daughters to Iceland for 5 days and we leave tomorrow night. We will be staying in Reykjavik each night, but plan on taking day trips from Reykjavik and spending a day in the city itself. We've looked at the Golden Circle, the south west, and western parts of iceland for day trips. Does anyone have any suggestions for places to go/things to do that would appeal to all 4 of us? Anything particularly fun for kids?

Thank you!

Hi all, I'm planning a week in Iceland from 20th to 27th Sept. I'll be going on my own but I would love to meet some like minded travellers to maybe share the cost of a rental car/accomodation for a few days, or if anyone is driving north from Reykjavik during that time and can offer me a ride in return for share of petrol and car rental costs, that would be fantastic :) I'm flexible on where I want to go, I just want to explore!

My girlfriend and I are visiting Iceland from 21-27 September. We are going back and forth between the paid tours and self-driving. We will have 5 "usable" days in-country - Monday through Friday - although Monday is the arrival day from North America, so we will be tired.

Our primary interest is in touring the countryside. Cities are cities anywhere (yes, go ahead and flame me, I know that's not really true), but as an amateur landscape photographer, the "landscape" is what we are interested…

Hi there. Does anyone know how the aggregation of puffins in the Westfjords was this year? Could I expect to see any around Latrabjarg by mid-August? If not, where do I have the best chance of seeing any this late in the season?
