hi,
I am considering attempting the Laugavegurinn trail in the first week of September and I have a few questions, if someone who has done it could give advise it would fantastic :)
1. firstly are the huts accessible at this time? and where do I book them?
2. how difficult is the trail? I am relatively fit, but have very little hiking experience is it out of my capabilities?
3. what weather can I expect at this time?
4. what should I carry with me?
nice one :)
Is there any advantage to travelling one direction over the other.
I'm thinking in terms of the Great Ocean Road in Victoria, Australia where it is recommended to travel westward as you are looking toward the 'better' views as you drive.
We are going in early June 2015 so there may be a weather advantage also in terms of where to start.
Thanks
Robyn
Hello,
I'm trying to make a rough plan for doing some simple trekking.
The idea is to hop on a bus from Reykjavik, get off and just walk and camp for 5-6 days then come back.
I was looking at some proper and interesting hike routes. I thought I might just combine them. These are the options I gather so far:
1) Akranes - Akrafjall mount - Hafnarfjall mount. Question: The road between two mountains is about 20 km. Is it anything interesting ?(I could try to hitchhike this road)
2)…
I'm planning to spend one week in Northern Iceland. Any recommendations places to explore? I'm interested in the Drangey Island.. Thank you!
Introduction:
Be aware of the weather, this was the worst season for years with a lot of rain, fog and clouds for days. Come prepared for cold and wet weather and have some extra days at hand. We couldn’t do all we wanted and “lost” about 6-7 days due to the weather conditions. Hitch-hiking is also not very comfortable in such weather and it can be more difficult to find a car willing to take you in if you are all wet.
If you like to book dormitory spaces in hostels, pre-book all…
HI-Hostel in Laugarvatn, cell: 486 12 15 and 899 54 09 (close to Stokkur-Geysir + Gulfoss): Excellent place, sometimes possible for the price of dorm beds (ISK 3’400 as a member) and a fine buffet breakfast for ISK 500.
Airplane Wreck near Skogar: Also known to many - especially photographers – it still hasn’t made it into the LP edition. It’s an old US Navy airplane and the sight is evocative at a deserted stretch of black lava sand around 500m inland from the sea. How to get there in a 2WD…
LP Update / Recommendations on Iceland (May 2013 edition) – part 3 of 3 - July – August 2014, 3 weeks:
The Westfjords:
Djupavik – Krossneslaug hot pot:
With its old fish factory now turned into a hotel, the cool shipwreck just in front and a waterfall nearby – Djupavik is a superb place to spend the night, maybe even in one of the huge round tanks. Choose the one that is dry (and dusty) and start singing for your friends. If you feel claustrophobic, chose a free camping spot approx. 70m up…
Hi, my friends and I are planning to undertake one or two of these trails in mid September. Although there are numerous trekking companies that offer trekking packages just wondering whether there trekking companies that cater for smaller groups i.e. 2-5 people.
My flight lands at 6:20am. Will the Flybus from the airport get me to Reykjavik in time for my Landmannalaugar bus at 8am?
Or will I be spending one night in Reykjavik?
(assuming the flight is on time)
I heard the Flybus always drops by the Blue Lagoon. Is this true? Even in September when the Blue Lagoon opens at 10am?
Hello everyone!
I will be traveling up from Southern Iceland to Northern Iceland in early September. Can anyone tell me if there are possible closures along the ring road around that time? In addition can anyone recommend the best route such as going clockwise or counterclockwise around the island to get there? I understand that at times the roads can be a little slow going in that area.
Thank you so much,
Kelly
