Hello,
We are a group of 11 people visiting Iceland in March. Most of us have US driver's license, and I wanted to know if it is permitted to drive a 12-seater van with a US license.
Also, does anyone know of a rental car company which offers such vans? The biggest vehicle available through most on-line portals is a 9-seater.
Any comments/help is appreciated!
Thank you,
I believe I read on the Thorn Tree that one could, or should, buy alcohol at the duty-free shop in the airport for use in Iceland because it is less expensive than anywhere in the country. In most countries, one can only buy duty free items when departing from the country. Is this different in Iceland?
Hello friends!
I am planning to walk from Ásbyrgi to Dettifoss to Reykjahlið.
Then from Reykjahlið I want to get to F26 and walk to Landmannalaugar.
And then from Landmannalaugar to Skógar.
Itinerary (rough dates to give some idea):
1) Leave Ásbyrgi: June 22 - arrive at Reykjahlið: June 26
2) Explore Mývatn: June 26 – June 28
3) Get to F26 (Sprengisandsleið): June 29
4) Arrive at Landmannalaugar: July 8
5) The rest of the way is well documented so I don’t have any questions.
If you can…
Is anyone able to recommend a local tour company providing day and longer tours. Looking for good service at a reasonable price.
Has anyone found a car rental company that is reasonable priced or locally owned.
If you want to rent a car in Iceland, do not rent from SADcar. We rented a car from them, but had to cancel. Forget it. They don't offer cancellations. You are not told this until you find a hidden note about it in their FAQ section. Use one of the major car rental companies who allow for full cancellations without penalties. SADcars will keep your payments made up front. They draw you in with low prices and 15-25% rates if you pre-pay. They keep it all regardless.
We are planning to be in Iceland after 15 March for about 10 days. We are looking at few options and would love more experienced travelers thoughts. We are from Chicago so pretty used to driving in snow but we are still having a hard time deciding about the options below because we are concerned about driving in March.
Option One- Fly in to Keflavik, rent a car and drive the golden circle, stopping overnight since we'll probably be tired from the flight, seeing Geysir, Gollfoss and…
We are planning to travel to Iceland in July 2015 with our two college aged children. We are still in the planning stages but are considering the following as an itinerary:
Day one: Rent a car and drive up towards Bogarnes. Stay the night near there. Explore the glacier? Ice caves? Snaefells Peninsula?
Days 2-3: Drive to Akureyri and spend one- two nights there. Suggestions on what to do?
Days 4-5 Drive to the Westfjords area and spend 2 nights there
Day 6-7: Stay near Selfoss or Hella…
Hello!
Any ideas for a solo 24y/o female traveler in Iceland for a week (late May)?
Hey,
I'll be doing a solo trip to Iceland and arriving in Reykjavik on January 14. Will be staying till January 21. Just wondering if anyone who happens to be there during that time and up for doing a tour or sightseeing together?
