I'll be traveling to Iceland in September (11 - 25). I was thinking of doing a day trip, flying from Reykjavik to Akureyri (Air Iceland), renting a car and driving to Dettifoss (with stops along the way) and back. This is the plan so far; would this be something I can do in a day or am I being really optimistic?

Depart Reykjavik (Air Iceland) - 7:15 AM
Arrive Akureyri - 8:00 AM
Rent a car (Hertz or other recommendations?)

Goðafoss - 30mins stop
Námaskarð - 30mins stop

How long does it take to drive from Hofn to Husavik, not counting any recreation stops? Google maps says it takes about 5 and a half hours but when I look at the map it seems like it would be longer than that.

We are going trekking for 3 weeks in August. A friend of ours who travelled by bike in Iceland in late June / early July told us the weather conditions have been really harsh since May, and several roads were still impassable when he was there, he had to completely change plans.
Do you know what the conditions are like now in areas like Langmannalaugar, Langjökull, Hofsjökull or Askja ? Still a lot of snow ? Will we need special equipment to go over some of the passes ?

I'm a college student doing a six day stopover in Iceland late August before I study abroad elsewhere. I'm going solo and from what I gathered renting a car is going to be too much money. So while it's not the perfect way to see Iceland (hopefully I will be back) I am looking for a few good recommendations for day tours out of Reykjavik.

Specifically, I would prefer smaller group tours. I'm also an avid photographer so any tour you might know that goes to a particularly beautiful…

After lots of struggle to agree on a route we have now the Problems that we Need to Combine our route with the available accomodation. That's what we got so far:

Day 1 Seydisfjördur
Day 2 We could either spend another half day in Seydisfjördur and then go to Egilstadir for evening/night or Neskaupstadur (both Options don't make me happy - however the horse riding is important and there is nothing available on Day 2)
Day 3 Húsey (Riding)
Day 4 Take the bus via Myvatn to Akureyri/Spend evening/night…

We are thinking to visit the golden circle from Sunday 16 August to Tuesday 18
And then to visit Snaefellsness from Sunday 23 to Tuesday 25

Hello, does anyone know if the dormitory you can book on myvatnaccomodation.is is anywhere near the town Reykhalid? As we will travel by bus I'm a bit afraid that it won't be easily accessible.

Solo male from Florida. I will be in Reykjavik on Aug 9 and 10. I am renting a car on the 10 early in the morning and just driving around. Not sure exactly where I will end up but I plan to be gone the entire day and see as much as possible before my flight the next day. If anyone wants to join I just ask that you help with gas.

I'm planning a 2-week trip to Iceland the last 2 weeks in August. (I've traveled a lot but this is first time in Iceland.) Two questions:

1. I've reserved a MINI car (Chevrolet Spark) but could change or cancel. I don't mind taking my time on the roads, but is a mini car too small for the longish trip (Ring Road or parts of it)? Rental car rates are expensive enough even for a small car. (I reserved with Sixt.)
