I am aiming to arrive in Keflavik on 7th/8th September for a week and to begin a rather long bike ride going through the Highlands, North to Geysir, Thingvellir etc then back to airport through Reykjavik.
However, I am looking to try and get a lift from Keflavik to Hella/Skogafoss/Vik to start with purely as I am on a tight schedule.
If anyone is heading that way and can fit a 29 year old guy who speaks no Icelandic in and will have a bike/rucksack with him, let me know. I'm willing…

I will be in the Westfjords from August 28th to 31st, arriving late on Friday leaving Monday evening. Would love to go hiking and kayaking. Have found plenty of kayaking tours, but none of the major operator offer hikes to Hornstrandir Nature Reserve on our dates.
Anybody know of a smaller tour operator that might have trips to Hornstrandir on that late in the season? I was advised to contact Gulli at Westfjordian Guides, but can't seem to find his contact information.

For anyone travelling to Iceland... we are going tomorrow. We originally booked our car with Sixt and after reading so many bad reviews we cancelled it and have now booked with Hasso who are incredibly reasonable. If they are not good you will hear about it in 10 days time on this forum! Can anyone advise whether you can camp anywhere in Iceland or does it have to be in campgrounds? I've been backpacking around Iceland since july 18 with a friend. We sleep in a tent mostly, sometimes in a hostel. We have basically taken the ring road and interesting places close to it, we have tried to ask locals about places that not many tourists go to. We tried hitch-hiking, that didn't work very well. I've been to Iceland several times and have never found a good way to start off a conversation with an Icelander by gaining permission to conduct the conversation in English. Something like 99% of Icelandic people under the age of 60 speak perfect English yet it is their second language and, at least as I consider it, it would not be polite for me, the foreigner, to simply charge ahead speaking in English. I know how to ask "Do you speak English?" in Icelandic. That's not what I want to say…

I will be traveling to Iceland 5-12 August. I have no plans so far. What I know is that will spend arrival evening + 1 day in Reykjavik. Then I want to travel around. Roughly speaking, I want to visit north and south parts of the country. Following the ring road (road #1) might be also a good idea, but not sure if feasible in 5 days (with stops and visits to different attractions on the way).
