hi everyone
I am travelling to Iceland in September 15 th for then days. I would like to do some trek for 3 or 4 days and the rest enjoy the rest of the island and its nature wonders. I would stay in hostels and hut camps if possible. Any trek recomendations?
I prefer going by myself anf not hiring tours, which cuts down spending money and travel more independent.
Also I am looking for travel mates to share experiences, hikes, saving money, etc
Hope the volcano let us all travel
thanks

Well you wouldn't get a trekking tour that late in the year anyway, so you'll have to do it yourself. But you wont' hvae any difficulty getting into the huts! Tours of that nature tend to stop running a few days before the end of August. Late August and early september is the shoulder season, and mid-Sept is pretty much the end of the season, though a few things continue until the end of the month, and off-season stuff happens all year. The last bus to get you to Landmannalaugar for the Laugavegur trek runs on 14 Sept. Snow can affect the trek even in late August. For other interior places with noted treks, buses stop running even earlier, eg, last Kjolur bus to Hveravellir last runs on 3 Sept. In view of this, you might want to look at trekking in the Eastfjords, where the paths are likely to be snow-free for longer, though with the Hofn-Egilsstadir bus last running on 15 Sept, that won't be too easy either, though I would think that hitching around there out of season wouldn't be too difficult. Here's some info on hiking in the area. http://www.nat.is/gonguleidireng/gonguleidir_viknaslodir_al.htm
