If you mean the road deep into the valley - I doubt it's progressing at all as long as eruption is active. In general the road was not damaged much - only short part after the burst from the lake at the bottom of Gigjokull glacier. Last time I've heard road guys were going to estimate the damage and decide whether its feasible to restore the road with simple work done by bulldozer or a new route should be considered.
But the main problem is eruption and melting of glaciers - not much point to do the job if it will be "annulled" by flood next day.

Daily reports from Civil Defense

We plan to do the Laugavegur trek, starting in Landmannalaugar and ending in Thorsmörk, at the end of june. The problem is, how will we get back to Reykjavik from Thorsmörk if there is no road? Are there another busstation (where there will be buses at that time of year) within walking distance, or should we cancel our reservation for the huts and find something else to do? :)

Hi, have a look at my thread below. Not 100% definitive (nobody knows how the volcano will evolve) but looks good.

Thanks! :)
Hadn´t thought of checking their website again, since I´ve found no information at all there before.

First of all you must remember - as long as you are in Iceland nothing going to happen. So relax ;-)
There are other roads to the place so you'll get back to Reykjavik for sure!
Nobody will tell you today where exactly the "bus stop" will be in the end of June but ...don't worry as I said.
By the way looks like eruption is over or got a break . And as you can guess this will affect "bus schedule" over there.

According to the news from today. The road to Thorsmork is being fixed right now. Most likely it will be ready by the end of the week. But it will probably not be open this weekend...

From the news
«It is nonetheless the Civil National Police Commissioner to chose whether traffic will be allowed in the area.»
