Hi,

I am hopeing to make a road trip, (in a 4x4) late October this year.
From Reykjavik to Jokulsarlon (to see the glacier).

Debating between making the trip in a 4x4 rental or opting to pay more with a travel company.

Strange question. Do you think it is possible to drive on the Icelandic 1 Ringroad in late Oct to Jokulsarlon?

Your help is appreciated
J

Perfectly straightforward drive in a 2wd. It is an all year tarmac road, and you don't need a 4wd for it at any time of year. There is some small risk of temporary disruption due to either sandstorm or snow at that time of year, but snow will not last long before melting at that season, rain is more likely. Keep a good eye on the weather forecast at vedur.is and the real time road information website at vegagerdin.is.

Not sure you´ll be able to take a boat tour on Jokulsarlon in late October...I would check with the tour companies.

In answer to your initial question, Jokulsarlon is easily accessible by a 2WD, although I would check the conditions in late October just to be on the safe side.

It does take about 5 hours to drive there from RVK..you might want to consider staying the night somewhere nearby.
