Hello,
I am planning to go to Iceland next summer. I was thinking of spending about 1 week to 10 days there touring the country, either by car or public transport (if any reliable form exists, dunno...).
What is the budget one has to count there for accomodation (a simple place will do). Also, any good deals on how to get there from Western Europe? I saw Icelandair offering some good specials from Germany.
Has the financial crisis affected prices there?

Hi Bernard, my first recommendation is that you rent a car in Iceland because it is really the most practical way to see the country. However, if you have your own car in Europe that you want to take with you to Iceland, instead of renting a car there, then you can easily do that by taking the Smyril Line passenger-car ferry from Denmark over to Seyðisfjörður in eastern Iceland. Secondly, I recommend that you buy a Camping Card (cost 109 EUR see link below) and campout because it will save you an enormous amount of money. Just make sure you have a good tent, sleeping bag, and air mattress and you’ll be fine.
Another good choice for accomodations are guesthouses. They are scattered all over the country and are generally very affordable. You can get a list of them at any tourist center or hotel. I agree that the best way to see the country is by having your own car (rental). That way you can have total independence. You can take a bus tour though. Rental cars in Iceland are not cheap though so definitely shop around...
Yes, the financial crisis has hit Iceland, and hard. But the currency exchange is generally in the tourist's favor right now. I don't know if that will still be true by next summer.
