lost camera pentax k200D, where to claim for lost properties

I posted the above to Facebook and asked people to share the post, perhaps something comes of it. I left out the type of camera - so if someone claims to have found it and wants money to send it to you, you can ask him what type camera he found :-)

There's no "national lost and found" that I know of - but honest people would probably hand over the camera at the nearest police station.
The local police ion Reykjavik DO have a web page dedicated to the subject (only in Icelandic - but some of the links might be of use to you). They might be willing to contact the local police responsible for the area where you lost your camera.

Unbelievable, an icelandic guy found my camera and find my contact my contact from a pics of my car.

It's great that your camera was found.
I just want to add that I recommend having a sticker with some contact information on the camera, for example inside the lid of the battery compartment, where it can't get scuffed. If it's a digital camera, I further recommend a) writing some contact info on the memo card(s) and b) typing into a word processor, in large letters, some contact information, e.g. an email address and/or phone number, and, to insure maximum chance of return, also the promise of a reward for finding and returning the camera/memo card. Then take a photo of the screen and lock it so that it can't be accidentally deleted. That way, you have done your best to make sure that even if the camera and memory card get separated, they can both be traced back to you.

I thought a lot before retrieving my camera, and in the future i will left some identifiers on my camera, mobile......

I'm in the same position. I put my camera on the top of the camper van, forgot and then drove off. We went back to look for it but there was no sign of it so I'm assuming someone picked it up. There are photo's of me and my boyfriend on our trip, starting in Reykjavik, then at Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss, Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon. We'd be devastated to lose the memories the camera has on it (including pics of where we just got engaged). We were on route one headed to Egilsstaoir from around Seljateigur.

Could you let me know about the facebook page mentioned above please?

Actually there isn't a particular Facebook page - I just posted to my own profile and asked people to share. This has been done in various contexts and proven to work for thefts and lost pets - now also for lost cameras.

I would PREFER somebody else to do the posting this time (I don't want to tire out my acquaintances!) but if no other Icelander volunteers I'll do it for you. Needless to say I would need to include contact info (an email address).

Thanks for the link also. We're keeping an eye on it and have been to the local station. We'll try the tourist office in the town tomorrow morning as well.
