Hi everyone, I made a list of places to see the best of Icelandic nature.

I am going there in June, I have done some research, with pictures to see which places are worth the visit. Please let me know if you have any new places to add. Thank you**

Foods you HAVE to try in Iceland:

  • Skyr (Icelandic yogurt type of a food) - goes well with fresh fruits
  • Whale meat - once in Iceland, right!
  • Lobster Bisque - The best lobster soup i have tried ever!
  • Icelandic Lamb - If you tried lamb somewhere else and didn't like it, it's time to try again.
  • Coca Cola - Believe or not Icelandic coke tastes different than most country because of the pure water.
  • Opal - Alcohol "shot" you can buy in every bar.
  • Salty liquirice - Nordic candy. (opal, topaz, etc..)

If you are planning to dine out. I recommend to find the restaurant online beforehand. One good website i recommend is:

Previous posters have left out the most delicious Icelandic quick lunch - we had it most days for the 2 weeks we were there. Flat bread (called flatkokkur) with butter and slices of smoked lamb leg (hangikjot). Divine beyond words! And make sure you nibble on some dried fish (hardfiskur) smothered in butter! And you can't miss the hotdogs (pylsa) - "with everything"! Enjoy...

And is the previous poster referring to the lobster bisque from Greifinn restaurant in Akureyri? If so, it was indeed the best, richest, most unbelievably delicious soup I've ever eaten!!
