Hi

I am planning a visit to the West fjords of Iceland next summer. I have heard that there are places that offer some incredible view of nature, Bolungarvik and it's mountain tops being one of them. A photographers heaven? I looked at the photo section in this web, but the photos were limited. The mountains look high but can they be climbed safely? Has anyone been there and can comment?

Here is hiking information for Isafjordur area (including one route which goes on to nearby Bolungarvik), including some maps. http://www.vesturferdir.is/index.php?k=3&p=140&lang=en&

That does at least demonstrate that walking over the hills is done, although many of the hiking trails are not fully signed nor necessarily visible on the ground.

In terms of wonderful views, be aware that you are likely to experience extended periods of overcast skies and worse. But it is beautiful when the sun comes out. I think if someone told you that some particular place in the Westfjords is particularly beautiful, it may be because that was where they were when the sun came out.

Here are some photos specifically of the Bolungarvik area.
