has anyone gone up Iceland´s highest summit? I would like to do it but I was interested in some first hand experience as to whether I would be ok. What sort of experience is required to go up this?

Thanks

The best season to go up in is May.
Going up takes about 15hrs most of these hours will be in a line walking over the glacier.
Crampons/ice axe will be required for the last few hundred meters.
The walk in itself is not difficult, just long. You will have to attached to the line at all time on the glacier: this includes "bathroom" breaks.

Weather is very changing, you may not see anything from the top.
I spoke to someone who went 4 times to the top and only once did they have a bit of a view.
