Good Morning,

Me and my girlfriend are planning trip in October for 5 days(9 Oct - 14 Oct). I need your opinion about my plan:

1st day: arriving in Keflavik airport at 14:30 and renting car there( I think carsiceland.com is good choice). First day in Reykjavik and maybe Blue lagoon.

2nd day: Golder Ring and sleeping in Selfos.

3rd day: Selfos - VIK. Visiting: Seljalandsfoss, Skógafoss, Dyrhólaey, Reynisdrangar. Sleeping in Vik

4th day: VIK - Hofn. Sleeping in Hofn.

5td day: Hofn - Reykjavik.

So, i have doubt about Hofn - Reykjavik in one day, its about 400 Km distance, but maybe it will be tedious what you think?

What to see on VIK - Hofn part, if i dont plan to go far from road 1?

Do you think i need a SUV for this trip?

Thank you :)

sleeping in Selfos

Selfoss is a working town, not a tourist destination. Consider anywhere else instead. In Iceland accom is often in scattered locations as well as settlements.

No.

Given the time you have, there is no point going any further east than Jokusarlon (glacier lagoon), driving from there to Hofn and back is pointless, there's nothing to see at Hofn beyond a view of Vatnajokull you already have (or don't have as the case may be due to weather) rather further to the W. So on 4th day, make J your furthest point east and drive back some distance W to some accommodation. On your way back, there will doubtless be places you didn't see on your way east because you didn't have time, or it was raining or something.

I do agree with Iviehoff - although I differ slightly about Selfoss..as far as small provincial towns in Iceland go it is one of the nicer ones and if you can find somewhere to stay then I say go for it..the fact you´ll be close to all major amenities, cheap places to eat etc is a bonus. But yes, accommodation is often in random places so don´t limit yourself to Selfoss.

Yes CarsIceland are really good, maybe also try Islandiacar.com if you can´t get what you want from CarsIceland. A 2WD will be fine going to Jokulsarlon and back.

On the second day drive to Vik and stay there. At least you'll get evening and morning there in case of bad weather. One full day for Golden Circle is not a wise idea.

Thanks guys, I've modified my trip according to advises of different people. Differences are marked as Bold:

1st day: arriving in Keflavik airport at 14:30 and renting car there( I think carsiceland.com is good choice). First day in Reykjavik and maybe Blue lagoon.

2nd day: Golder Ring and sleeping in Hella.

3rd day: Hella- VIK. Visiting: Seljalandsfoss, Skógafoss, Dyrhólaey, Reynisdrangar. Sleeping in Vik

4th day: VIK - Jokulsarlon. Sleeping in the middle of return way between Vik and Jokulsarlon. There is a nice hotel in the middle of nowhere :D

5td day: VIK - Reykjavik.

I hope, the bardarbunga will stay calm, as its now and i could write here my experience :)

Thanks
