Hey,

I am probably comeing over for the airwaves thing, I realise a lot of hiking will not be possible when I come, is there anything still good to do around then, hiking wise? and if not what is the best way to see Icelands Nature at that time.

Thanks,
Charlie.

There is still a lot of things possible, you need to be more precise about your hike. What type of hikes are you into? Multi day or single day, full packing or day packing, starting points just from Rvk or anywhere else, mountain hiking or low land hiking.

Hi!

I'm quite interested in this topic also as we think about going to Iceland the 2nd half of September (it's either that or the Portuguese Algarve - yes, I know, 2 totally different things!). Because the prices are so low right now we think it might be worth considering, but we wonder if the time of year is still OK (let's say September 12th till October 4th or something like that). We don't know Iceland at all so we don't have a particular hiking preference - we just like nature a lot.

The difficulty in advising is that weather is messy, and things depend upon weather, especially at this time of year. Probably sometime between Sept 12th and Oct 4th (that #2 mentions) there will be a heavy snowfall, and quite a few seasonal roads, and the delightful areas they access, that were open when you arrived will close for the winter. Indeed one or two of the most remote roads might already be closed before you arrive. But of course no one can say precisely when this snowfall will happen. Whilst the snow will melt, or not even land, in the milder, lower coastal areas, further inland and higher up the whiteness will persist till the following spring. But there is plenty to amuse you in the coastal areas, between the rain and the wind.

Do you have nice hiking trails in the coastal areas?

(Maybe someone can show us where to find pictures of these areas?)

"where to find pictures of these areas"
Google earth - turn on Panoramio and zoom in (a lot)- there will be 1000s of pictures of every inch where a tourist has ever set his/her foot.

Probably we'll take our holiday 1 week later, from September 19th. Is it still advisable to travel to Iceland if you want to do some hiking?
