Hi all,

I wanted to know of people's experiences hiring a car in Iceland.

I've booked a car, but there are a lot of extra insurances that can be added on for gravel damage, ash damage and flood damage.

We're not going to be very adventurous with our travels so I'm wondering if anyone has any advice on whether these extra insurances are necessary?

Also, is there something amazing we would miss out on if we didn't go a bit off-road?

Thanks for your help
Hannah

I have booked with Blue rental, I think at least two levels of insurance are included in the price. Their rates are compatible to other agencies uninsured rates, because they do not (at least in 2013) have an expensive office at the airport, and passed the savings to their customers. They have a lot of different delivery and drop off options. They are really honest guys, and have the latest models.

Also, be sure to ask any rental agency for extra fuses for the cigarette lighter, they tend to blow easily, especially with GPS
