Hi all,
My fiance are getting married in Iceland in September 2015. We are wondering where ppl recommend a base. We are planning on getting married in South Iceland. The exact destination of the wedding ceremony we are still figuring it out - any suggestions greatly appreciated. We are looking at the black sand beach :)

If any one can recommend a good base for South Iceland - we are thinking of Hella (Hotel Ranga for the 2 nights around the wedding date). Is it driveable to Jokulsarlon and back? Should we look in to staying somewhere closer to Jokulsarlon before heading back?

The furthest East we are going in Jokulsarlon. We will be doing the Golden Circle from Reykjavik as well as Snaesfellsnes from Reykjavik.

Thanks :)

Hotel Budir on Snaef. Peninsula is worth every penny. Drinks after the wedding or honeymoon night.

That depends how far you are willing to drive.

J is about 75km short of Hofn, so you can calculate Hella to J is around 300km one way.

When you say "the black sand beach" I presume you have Vik in mind. (Though the sand is black at Jokulsarlon, and indeed very many other places in Iceland, black is the normal colour of sand in Iceland). It's nearly 100km from Hella to Vik so do you really want to be driving that far? And bear in mind that Vik is the wettest village in Iceland. There is obviously a substantial weather risk anywhere but hoping for it not to rain in Vik is hoping hard. Skaftafell has a particularly kind micro-climate among south coast locations, so gives you a good chance some nice weather. And it's only 50km or so from J. Though when you go around that corner (round the tallest mountain in Iceland) 20km south of Skaftafell, the weather can change to something quite different.

When we were at Hjalparfoss, there was a wedding - I guess because its romantic to see two waterfalls unite to one river. But there were many flies too - I dont know if I would want to marry like this ;)
