Looking for a day trip from Stykkishólmur to Flatley Island. How long is the ferry and about how much? Thoughts on a quick visit?
Thanks! I didn't see that but I'll take your word for it. What I'm really looking for though is someone who has personal experience visiting the island. I read quite a few travel books/websites but I'd like to hear from someone on here that's actually been. Thanks!

The timings are quite clear on the schedule page. The ferry only stops at Flatey for a couple of minutes, so dep and arr are essentially the same.
I have spent time on Flatey, going on the morning ferry and staying there the 6h45 until the next ferry proceeded to Brjanslaekur. If you return to Stykkisholmur on the evening ferry, you will have 11 hours on the island. Alternatively you can stay there for 2h45.
I was lucky it was a beautiful sunny day. It is a pretty island to walk around on a nice day, see the eider ducks, and some other birds. We also found the odd curiosity of human construction, though I can't promise you will be able to. Then plenty of time to enjoy the coffee shop afterwards. Nearly 7 hours was plenty. On a day of less pleasant weather, we'd have had time to get bored. If it is this year you are thinking of doing it, then there will be rather fewer seabirds at this season, as the breeding season is mostly over now. I wouldn't do it if the day was less than pleasant.
