Hi there, I'm a solo traveler and trying to find out, is there a way to camp by Fjaðrárgljúfur? I have heard conflicting reports about where one is allowed to camp in Iceland, some clarification would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

It's not in a reserve, as far as I am aware, http://www.eea.europa.eu/data-and-maps/figures/national-parks-and-nature-reserves so if you can find a suitable spot I can't see why you can't camp near there. The usual problem is finding a spot of unfenced land which is actually suitable for putting a tent up, but there seems to be a fair bit of unfenced grassy land in the vicinity. It's a good 5km or so walk out of Kirjubaejarklaustur up a road with very little traffic, so if you are walking it is a fair commitment.
