Hi,

Planning on taking the ferry to Heimaey and staying overnight on Thursday 4 September. Taking a small 4X4.
I see there are about 5 ferries a day, not sure which one will want to take, is it necessary to book or if we turn up say 45mins in advance are we likely to be able to get on a ferry?

Thank you for you help
Daniel

I think you have to book, specially with a car.

You definitely have to book in advance, either online or by phone. You also must show up at least 30 mins before departure. Not sure how soon before departure you have to book but I would have thought a day or two would be sufficient.

Hi,

I actually took the ferry to Heimaey today at 10 am without booking and had no problem. There weren't that many people on it either. But I had no car...

Doubt you need the car, but advance booking can't hurt.

I was able to walk everywhere I wanted to go when there.
