Hi,

I have read many posts recommending camping in Iceland. I will be visiting in June 2009. I have a few questions that I can't seem to find asnwers too....

  1. Is it possible to rent camping equipment in Iceland so we don't have to bring everything with us (travelling by plane)?

  2. Do campsites get full and need to be booked up in advance?

Thank you!!

Yes, www.atours.is rents tents and equipment with their cars. See their website for details.
Campsites do not nedd to be prebooked, and then there is of course "wildcamping" allowed in most places outside the National reserves.

I've done it. I would suggest you pack your own equipment though - as it's not cheap to buy. I never saw much stuff you could hire either.
There is an excellent campsite about 10 minutes walk from the big cathedral in Reykjavik. The city is so small, everyone you ask - will know where it is.
Excellent facilities, not expensive - and good hospitality from the family of school teachers that run it during the summer months.
Wrap up warm. It's never more than about 4c at night, even though it's still almost light.
You won't need to book. There's room for plenty.
Enjoy (as if otherwise!!!!).
