I'm interested to hear some thoughts on the Blue Lagoon. Is it worth the visit? The crowds and the fact that it is man-made kind of turn me off. However, the rest of this country has been face-meltingly beautiful.

Thanks for any feedback!

I was half way through a trip report for Iceland on TripAdvisor (look for my username rachelandgromit) and I never got to reviewing the Blue Lagoon part of my itinerary. In my opinion (and I never really wanted to go but my wife insisted) it is just not worth it. It is overpriced, disorganised, busy and there are far nice hot pools in Iceland. It may be unique but just not worth it for me.

Yeah that's what I keep hearing. I might just skip it. I am a budget traveler after all... :)

I kind of want to try and catch an Icelandic film in Reykjavik. I've heard they have an arthouse cinema there.

It was hot, salty, silty and quite enjoyable. A bit tourist-trappy but still good. This was back in '99 though. Things may have changed.

Eat strawberries. Watch sunset. Talk, kiss and dance. And always remember to bring dry socks.

I went today and I loved it. It wasn't too crowded and the operation was well organized, with helpful employees at every turn. I haven't been to any other hot springs in Iceland so I can't compare it to them. Also my company paid for me to go so I have no idea how expensive it was.

Nice well glad to hear you had fun. I ended up not making it to any hot springs. Not even a pool. I'm thinking of planning an entire hot springs trip for next time. :) That would be pretty fantastic.

Nice to stop at after a trans-Atlantic flight (it's quite literally like being in a bathtub and super relaxing). But if you go, I'd recommend going as early as possible. We went straight from the airport after landing and got there about 9am and managed to beat a bunch of tour busses by minutes. So the first bit we were there was fine but just got more and more crowded the later we stayed.
