Hi, I would like to hear some bird-watching advice at Latrabjarg. I'll be visiting there in September. I worry that the birds might be gone south by then. Also, what is the best time of the day to watch birds?
Thanks

Certainly the puffins all leave around about 10 August, which is what most (non-specialist birdwatcher) people are interested in. The other auks also winter at sea, but stay a bit longer, though I can't find easily find information on their leaving schedule. From experience of being at other bird cliffs in late August, there isn't very much to see at that time.
I suspect that there is specialised birdwatching interest in September in relation to migrations and passage migrants, (for example I recall Lon in the Eastfjords being covered in whooper swans in late August in preparation for migration). You'd have to find out where to go from specialist bird-watching sources, ie post on a bird-watching forum, if that kind of thing is of interest to you.

Vestmannaeyjar is a great place for Puffins and other seabirds, but getting there is weather-depending, so I would recommend the west. Not neccessary all the way to Látrabjarg, but at least to Breiðafjörður www.seatours.is
The drive out there it self is an adventure, and the tour across, or the bird-watching one on Breiðafjörður is worth the trip.
