Hello,

Thanks to everyone who has been answering my questions on this forum and sending my PM replies!!

I am now thinking of taking the train from Warsaw to Kiev. It is a long journey, which is fine. I love the train. But, I would like to use my laptop and I want to know how safe it is. Apologies if this question seems naive - I recently took a train through Bulgaria, which was seriously scary. I am now a very cautious rider!

Thank you,
R.

Hello,

I'm traveling on a tight budget. I've been looking at Kiev hostels. I'm trying to find one with good, clean, safe private rooms - with WiFi if possible.

Also, any recommendations on whether or not it is safe to leave camera etc. there would be appreciated...

Last question: Aside from the Kiev Post, where do folks get good current events, news etc. about Ukraine (or Kiev specifically)?

Thank you!
R.

We want to travel by public transport from Lviv to Chernivtsi on a weekday.
We prefer to travel during the daytime.
What is possible : train ? bus ?
Do we have to buy tickets in advance ?
Any tips on Chernivtsi or on the neighbourning countryside ?
Is there a place to swim in the summertime in both cities ?
Thank you.

I posted this same message on Russian section two weeks ago, but got no replies. Maybe someone here knows better.

I'll be traveling Eastern Europe in September with 3 friends. We will take train 47 or 65 (train numbers from poezda.net, route Moscow Kievskaia - Kishineu) from Kiev to Chisinau, and then few days later train 105 from Chisinau to Bucharest.

We of course want to reserve the tickets before the trip, so we are sure to get places on those trains. We'll be traveling in 4-person…

Does anybody use a Plus ATM card in Ukraine? I can't find an ATM that will accept it. There are many banks that have the Plus logo on the ATM, but still won't accept it. When I did a google search for Plus ATM locations in Ukraine, there were many on the list - but they still didn't accept my card. I am certain that my card is valid. I am in Dnepro now but will be travelling throughout Ukraine. Thanks.

hey guys, Im a student in Miami doing a paper on Roma in Europe. The paper will mostly focus on discrimination and possible integration into schools, etc. Im looking for suggestions, links, really anything helps no matter how basic. Has anyone read any good articles recently or seen anything interesting related to the Roma? Even sharing a point of view or personal experience would be helpful. You can email me if you'd rather not respond here: UncleJarLovesYou@aol.com.

Thanks so much, and please…

We're looking to stay in Lviv for 2 -3 nights. We're not sure how long we need. Our flight arrives the afternoon of the first day. Should we give ourselves lots of time to explore? Or is it small and relatively compact?
Love to hear your input about Lviv, and if you liked it, and what are must see sites!
Cheers.

I am researching regeneration and other stories in the Chernobyl fallout zone. I am also curious about people who are illegally living in contaminated areas. Has anyone traveled there? How easy is it to approach these areas? Tips, warning? Any ideas where I can find current events information? I'd appreciate any ideas...

Also, I am going to look for someone to help me make calls and send emails, interpret during interviews and help with research. I would like to drive out to the fallout zone…

just to let people know that it's possible to book and buy train tickets online on the ukrainian railways network here:
http://www.e-kvytok.com.ua/wps/portal

i'm a french citizen using visa card and i've just managed to book a train ticket for april from lviv to kiev. it seems to work well, although it's all in ukrainian. apparently you're supposed to print out the form at the end and bring it to any train station desk in ukraine to get the 'real' ticket' (can anyone confirm this?).
