I'm an American student volunteering in Kiev for four months beginning in February. I've never been there but I used to live in Budapest and have traveled around Central and Eastern Europe, though not that far East. I don't speak Ukrainian but will be working with an organization that will help me get acquainted and translate when necessary. Can anyone offer advice about where to live - I'd like a cheap and fun accommodation for four months: apartments, group living with natives or ex-pats, family stays... I'm not sure where to start looking. Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks.

I'm in another part of Ukraine, but if you make a search for apartments Kiev you should find something. Doesn't your organization help you with this???

Why doesn't the organisation you're volunteering help you to find something.
All accomodation advertised in English for foreigners is very expensive, unless you don't mind to pay at least $2000 per month for a studio, you will need to read Russian or Ukrainian and you can find what you need on www.aviso.ua for example

How do you plan to stay in Kyiv for more than 90 days? Do you have some sort of work permit or special visa arranged?

Ukraine only permits US passport holders to remain in country for 90 days within a 180 day period. You may need to rethink your plans.
