You will meet some cab drivers , some of them might tell you the stories that , they are the only transport to the city ( as it was with me a few times ) , if you travel on budget , then you should ignore them , because the taxi is not really cheap.
You will see the bus just in front of you , may be even more than one bus , that bus drives you to the Kiev Train Station.
If you do not see the bus , just wait. It will arrive , there might be some other people who will wait the bus as well.

From train station go by map to your place , you can go by walk , or use a subway from Central Station.

My advise , when there are a lot of people in the metro , do not ask questions or directions very loudly , there might be pickpockets who can try to rob the foreigner.
But you should know that it is secure in Kiev , as secure as in any European cities.
The only possible problem it can be the pickpockets , like in any other European country.

If you do not know the direction , ask the girls or tidy students looking young men.

I am not from Kiev , but I used Borispol-Kiev transport , so these are just my advises.

Bus or shared taxi van to the train station for 25 hryvnias per person. They depart from right at front of the airport exit. If you take a shared taxi ask for the price first to be sure, but they operate just like the bus. Don't believe whatever the cabbies may tell you in the arrival hall - there are buses and shared vans 24 hrs and usually you don't need to wait long for a departure.

After arriving to the train station enter it, cross over the tracks to the other side and the metro station is right to the left as you exit.

Yes, it is far. Take the metro or if you arrive late in the night, take a cab.

You will be able to get hryvnias at the airport, although I don't know the rates. Usually airport rates are poor but in worst case you can change 20 euros or so there and the rest somewhere in the city.

I did this when I arrived a few months ago and it's approx 30 minutes walk via Shevchanka Boulevard and Khreschatyk...I like to orient myself by doing this when I arrive in a new city but not for everybody, perhaps...

Here's something I wrote recently in the Ukraine 'sticky' which may be of use to you if making the return journey from the train station to the airport...

Probably the handiest option is to take one of the Marshrutki that leave from directly opposite the main terminal at the train station...costs a very reasonable 30Gv and takes 45 minutes or so to get to the airport...drawback here is that they only leave when they fill up so you may have a sweat if you have less than 2 hours or so to your flight time...in my case we were waiting 50 minutes before it finally got on the road and any longer and I would have been under a lot of pressure...

Also cheap and what many locals do is to take the metro to Kharkivska on the Green Line and then a bus from there to the airport...at Kharkivska you need to take the exit to your left from the train then turn right through some doors, walk down to the end of this corridor, go right again and up the stairs...bus stop is a few yards further...

Least costly reputable direct transfer that I'm aware of is by Wizzair airlines who will collect you at your hotel or wherever and get you there for €11.50 or thereabouts...http://mogyoro.hwstudio.hu/pair/index.php?town=40...</i>

One mistake you don't want to make is to take the metro out to Boryspil station which is not near the airport itself...

The first 500 metres or so from the station uphill along Shevchanka is a bit of a slog but it's fine after that...then you have St Vladimir's cathedral on your left hand side which is worth a stop if you have any interest at all in Orthodox art...at the bottom of the hill you'll come upon Bessarabsky square and market and main thoroughfare Khreshatyk runs left from there to Maiden Nezhalezhnosti (Independence Square)...
