Hi,

We will be arriving in Lviv, May16th and leave from Kiev May 25th to return home from Bucharest. We have spent most of our time in Romania. It would seem a few days in Lviv and a few in Kiev.

Suggestions on which places to visit on our way to Kiev would help. Maybe we can fit an easy(nearby homestay in) or a city and see the square or? Or we just do the two cities and enjoy what they have to offer.

Hostels/hotels that are great please mention. Our budget is $50 and we like an ensuite and breakfast included. Local restuarants that you found to be worthy let me know their names.

Check out our Blog - goldenage backpackers

Thanks,
John

I advise you this one at least: Pochayiv Lavra

For Lviv, you might check with slav of lvivecotours for accommodation suggestions. The center of the city is easily seen in a day or two at most.

For Kyiv, the city is larger and there is more to see and do so what to suggest depends some on your interests though the Lavra is probably the one must see along with the area known as Podil.

For both cities a good starting place for tourist information is the destinations guide here on the LP site.

Accommodations will be tough in Kyiv which is not known to be a cheap place to stay and where the hostel reviews often seem inflated. Again, try searching the TT for information.

For accommodation in Lviv why not search for an apartment near the old town. Food and drink in that area is amazingly cheap. With hotels you don't always get what you pay for. As for Kiev I would recommend the City Center Hostel. It is situated on Independence Square with great views. Prices are about double that of Lviv but still cheap by western europe standanrds.

For things to do see www.easteuropeangateway.com The info for Ukraine is not on there yet but should be by the time you travel.

If you intend to visit St Sophie Cathedral it is on a very steep hill downwards. If like me you didn't want to climb back up, exit the site at the bottom of the hill and take a tram. As you are facing the river the tram you need will run from your right to left. The tram stops at a metro station where you can get the metro back to Kiev. You can walk to the metro in about 30 minutes.
