Does someone know what happens when one does overstay a visa for several months? I overstayed without being aware of it but found out by accident that my current employer hasn't done the paperwork and they did not tell me. They always acted as if everything was fine.
Now I do have the Ikamet that is dated until october but obviously it is all cancelled in their computer systems. Will customs at the airport actually check the system or are they happy to only look at your ikamet?
How much are the…

The entrance fees for major sites have increased. LP10 (April 2007) says fees for Saya Sofya, Topkapi Palace, and Harem (part of Topkapi) are 5.50 lira. They are each 10 lira. Probably, the interesting update I can offer is that visiting the Harem no longer requires guided tour group. In fact to be guided you need to hire a personal guide. Now this may change once high season begins. LP10 highly recommends the Harem; I don’t. Sure there are a few interesting rooms, but other than the bathing…

Me again. Having received encouragement concerning driving in Turkey, I went to the viamichelin.com site to check out costs & distances. I received several very strange results, leading me to question the condition of roads. For example, Selcuk to Milas is 77 miles, and the time estimate is 1 hour & 37 minutes. This seems very REASONABLE to me. I understand the route follows major highways 525 and 550--and that smaller roads would certainly increase driving time. Some of the results I got for…

Hi,

I'm flying into Istanbul this summer and want to try and make it over to the Greek Island of Santorini. Has anyone done this before or taken a similar route from somewhere in Turkey to islands in the Aegean? My preferance would be to try and get a on a boat from somewhere on the Turkish coast (maybe Izmir, really have no idea if this is possible,) and go straight there or island hop to Santorini; but If its easier to go down the Greek coast I could do that too. Just anyway where I could make…

I'm going to Izmir/Selcuk next week and am considering renting a car. Does anyone have advice about a woman driving alone to the usual archaeological sites along the coast and inland to Aphrodisias? Is it safe and appropriate for someone with only travel-guide Turkish language knowledge? What about gas stations? Are they self-serve? Any comments DEEPLY appreciated.

Hello,
I'm off to Istanbul at the beginning of June. Are mosquitoes a problem in Istanbul during the Summer ?
Thanks.

My family is in Istanbul for four nights and would like to have maybe one memorable meal without it costing a fortune. Nothing hopelessly trendy; we haven't the clothes for it.

Is there something famously Ottoman? And, this may sound nuts but, after two weeks in the region, anything Asian? Or other non-Turk ethnic?

We're staying in the old city so anything from there to Galata or ??? would be fine. No car, of course. Just feet and transport.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Someone said Bosphorous cruise- any recommended ferry trips or cruises....
Staying in Sultanahmet but want to explore by water, so local ferries full of locals .
Or a good cruise that takes it all in.

Does anyone know the cheapest places to stay in Istanbul- hopefully close to water (any) or easy to transport for the beach if possible.
Same goes for Marmaris or in that area- any recommended beaches or beach towns worth visiting but not too touristy or over-priced.
I would like to spend 2- 3 weeks there so somewhere relaxing........
