I would like to go to Xmas to turkey with my 3 adolescent children. Is it worth the trip for just a week?
Any suggestions of itineraries?
cool things for the kids?
Hotels?
Tours?
Thanks
Dorothy

Hello

A couple of friends and I will travel in Turkey from Sept. 4-15. On the 15th I may head to Jordan while they return home. After touring Jordan for a few days I'll return to Istanbul before I fly home. My question relates to the time in between flights: Is 3 hours enough of a transfer time between flights (using different airlines)? Will I be able to clear customs/immigration and check-in for my next flight or should I return to Istanbul a day early? Alternatively, I could skip Jordan…

Hi all,

I'm now in Syria, having spent the last three most wonderful weeks in Turkey. However, I've discovered I may need to return to Turkey, & specifically Ankara (for embassy reasons), in the next week or two - I never went near Ankara & didn't intend to, & have already given away my Turkey guidebook to get rid of some weight.

So. Would anyone have any recommendations for cheap places to stay in Ankara? Or suggestions for places to base myself outside of Ankara (so that I can chill out…

I am very seriously considering moving to and retiring in Turkey permanently. I would like to find a medium sized town (60 M to 120 M)
either on the Black Sea Coast or the Mediterranaen coast ( I prefer the latter). Not a typical Tourist destination but with an expat community. The cost of living is an important factor as I am operating on a modest income. If someone can suggest the names of a few towns it would be appreciated. Realistic statistics on cost of living would also be helpful. Thanks…

Hey I just left Istanbul today but stayed in a very new (since December) and clean hotel called Medhi Barrdi Hotel. Its off the beaten path one block behind the Khao San Rd vibe in old Sultanemat. I travel alot so when I find a very nice place I like to pass it along. I think it is more geared for couples and it costs about 60 euros a night with a large breakfest. The owner is super helpful and does everything to make you feel at home (it has a full kitchen). It was a great way to start a month…

To anyone that is going to be doing a bit of duty free shopping at Istanbul airport - make sure the bags are vacuum sealed before you board the plane as your purchases may be confiscated off you otherwise.
I bought a few items from duty free after I had cleared customs and thought nothing of it when the sales assistant put them in normal shopping bags as I assumed all would be well as I was past the "security check point". Plus everyone else's purchases were also put in the same bags.

However when…

I'm planning a day trip (renting a car) from Mardin to Hasankeyf. I'm wondering what are the good places to visit along the way. Zafaran Monastery or Mor Gabriel or Hah? Or should I spent the time in Midyat and Hasankeyf? I'm not a very religious person, so I'm looking for the site and the setting than a religious experience.
