Hello all,
I'll be vacationing in Turkey from Sept. 14th through Sept. 28th, coming from the U.S. Does anyone know if it's necessary to get vaccinations for any diseases before I go? I will be getting a tetunus booster, since I haven't had one in eons. But I'm curious as to whether it's necessary to get hepatitus A, B and/or C shots. Also, what's the risk of malaria? Sorry if I sound dumb, but it's my first trip to somewhere other than Europe. I'll be traveling the "tourist route" since it's a tour (Istanbul, Bursa, Ankara, Ismir, Ephesus, Anatolya, Konya, Cappadoccia, etc.). Thanks in advance for your assistance!

We lived there for 7 years and never had innoculations for anything. Don't sweat the small stuff. Everything you purchase, the tour guide gets 15 to 20 percent right off the top.

I think you may be a little late for your hep B, or just on the edge (you have to get them over a period of time), but A is always good for a year or two (?), and once you get your booster for A you're good for 10 years. Where you are travelling forget Malaria. Even in SE Turkey, which apparently lies within a Malaria zone, unless you are staying out in the boonies, nah.

No need to even think about malaria this year, if it was ever an issue - it is bone dry. You'll do well to ask your pensions/hotels if they have water, not just hot water.

Yes, cochradi, I was reading in the Turkish Daily suggested alternates to tap water for those living in Ankara..

A lot of apartment buildings have their own backup reservoirs, and we have one. Still, the water does not circulate, meaning that the reservoir has not been used since the last water cut (which was at least a year or two ago). The result is that the water is much less pleasant than usual and taking a shower leaves an oily film afterwards.
