We would like to take the overnight train from Istanbul to Sofie, Bulgaria. I understand from other sources that the tracks are torn up and bus is the only alternative. Is this true? If so, is there an inexpensive flight to Sofie?

re: "Inexpensive" flights to Sofia, Bulgaria
It depends on when you travel, the flexibility of your schedule and your definition of "inexpensive". I did a quick check for the month of June and found many options between $225-$275 p.p. round trip. When I typically pay about that amount to fly from St. Louis, MO to Chicago, IL when booked well in advance I certainly call that inexpensive!

What's wrong with taking the bus? You were willing to commit the same amount of time to the train.
