Following on from previous discussions of unrest in Eastern Turkey - I have spent the last week travelling by hired car from Trabzon, via Hopa to Kars, Dogubeyazit and Van. Wonderful scenery and generally good roads. Some road damage around Hopa arising from the recent heavy rains/flooding but the road was open. On the high passes between Dogubeyazit and Van we saw a total of 5 burnt out lorries which had allegedly been attacked by militants. We have seen no other signs of any problems.
