Hi to all!

I would like to include a Syrian monastery into my Southeastern Turkey itinerary. I know there is one near Mardin (Saffron monastery) and another one near Midyat (Mor Gabriel). Which one would be a better pick in your opinion (probably I won't have enough time to visit the both two)? Has anyone stayed overnight in the monastery? There is supposed to be a morning ceremony in the monastery - is it held every morning and is it open to outsiders?

Thanx for your help.

If there is a morning service I don't know but Deyrul Zafaran near Mardin is great. I paid last June 20 YTL for a taxi to get me there, the driver waited almost two hours and drove me back to town. I didn't need to pay an entrance fee or a guide, that was all free of charge. You can see pictures here: Deyrul Zafaran . Unfortunately the link to English doesn't work, so at the Turkish part you can see pictures and maybe someone can translate some for you?

On the page there is no information about morning ceremony but there are visiting times.
Winter Schedule (apparently not updated)
Morning 09:00 - 11:30
Afternoon 13:00 - 15:30

Thank you Trudy63 and rozy for your replies! It sure looks nice. I will check it;)

About the visiting times: Is it open longer in the summer?

Thanx.

I checked some pages in Turkish and people reports that it is open till 17:00 in summer time.
This is, of course, from last year.
Enjoy your trip!
