Anyone got any ideas about the best way to spend a romantic evening in Istanbul?

For me, wandering the area surrounding the Blue Mosque, then sitting at one of the outdoor cafes for a nice, quiet, dinner, would be a great start. Then a walk along the waterfront would be nice.

Although there are many other options of rooftop restaurants in Beyoglu, I always like Litera at Istiklal Street, on the top floor of the Goethe-Institut as a cafe and a restaurant. Food is good but not very special, typical world cuisine. Of course, you can say that I am biased about my own city but the view is just gorgeous from there. Make a reservation at least 2-3 days in advance to have a table by the side. Tel: (0212) 292 89 47 / 292 89 50

I also recommend KizKulesi / Leander's Tower to visit during the day or at night.

Sunset, from the Galata bridge. Go down under the bridge to the lower level and head for the restaurants on the western side. Plenty to choose from, many with music. Food predominantly fish-based. Also hubble-bubble available at some.

Any place with a Bosphorus view. "Assk Cafe" at Kuruçesme can be an option but it is not a late night venue,it is great for breakfast and early eveing meal.I like" Nu Teras" at Beyoglu section,it is on the pera side of Beyoglu at Mserutiyet caddesi. It is a terrace bar and restaurant overlooking at the Golden Horn and it is open untill 2.A.M ."Banyan " can also be recommended which is a fusion restaurant( if you like Thai food) at the famous Ortaköy area, great views of the Bosphorus Bridge and the Ortaköy mosque. If you like fish and if you are a Meze type of person you may like" Poseidon" which is at Bebek.Stunning view of the Bebek Bay this is a place to try Raki if you haven't already.I do not know your budget but if you are out there to impress a potential lover I will strongly suggest "Ulus 29 1 at Ulus district which is on top of a hill looking down on Bosphorus, very good Turkish food.Ofcourse there is always the reliable" Leb-i Derya"( the roof- top restaurant of the Richmond Hotel right on Beyoglu).

This may come in late but might help someone else...

There's a moonlight cruise on the Bosphorus by 'vapur' at the Besiktas pier and it costs about 15YTL. ($11 / 8.5 euros)
