For anybody who uses Tripadvisor regularly I would just like to share what happened yesterday. I have spent the last few summers visiting the area of Turkey where the two little Syrian boys drowned this week, we saw first hand a few weeks ago the sights of tiny babies and children sleeping on beaches, heartbreaking. I am in touch with a couple of ladies, one who has lived there for many years and does massive amounts of charity work and another who owns a property there. Yesterday a post was put on TA advising that the lady who lives there has arranged a drop off point at a hotel for babies nappies, wipes, toothbrushes, sanitary protection etc, not luxury items but essentials we all use, she was very kindly arranging for these "dignity" packages to be distributed to the refugees and if anybody was on their way out and wanted to help it would be appreciated. The post was swiftly removed by TA, I posted a question asking why they had done this, that too was removed, this continued all day with people becoming very angry that they were doing this. A further post was added stating that some of the airlines were allowing people to take an extra 5kg of luggage free of charge if it was packaged seperatly and marked as charity. This was also removed. I was so angry I asked again why they had done this, this was deleted and I then received an email from TA telling me all of the posts were removed as they "were not travel related nor relevant"!!!! My question was removed as you are not allowed to discuss questions, comments or complaints about Tripadvisor procedure! I had to check that I was looking at Tripadvisor UK and not Tripadvisor North Korea!
Totally disgusted, clearly they don't want this "little" issue to affect people's holidays, heaven forbid!!! Disgusted, feel free to share if you wish

I think you need to realise that certain parts of TA are primarily aimed at package tourists looking for cheap sun, cheap beer and cheap fakes.
I've given up posting there.

Hi Lynsey, nice to see you on here :) I posted up the Facebook link in a thread just down the page a couple of days ago as I realised then that TA would not allow this.Thankfully Thorntree has a more humane attitude, bless'em.

Pleased to see a better attitude from them that's for sure, was really expecting this to have been deleted by now from here as well! TA's attitude is very sad and from the amount of closed topics I've seen on there today they have no plans to change it any time soon.
