Hi all,

Just wondering if you are able to book balloon flights upon arrival? Or is it best to prebook at this time of the year?

We have tried contacting our accommodation multiple times as they had previously said they could help with the booking but haven't heard back.

Then I suggested contacting the actual balloon company (Royal Balloons) to book direct through them and also no reply!

We are a little hesitant to carry out a booking on the Royal Balloons website just incase our accommodation has actually organised something and just not replied to us.

We arrive in Istanbul 23rd April and in Goreme around the 27th April.

Thanks for any help!

There are many balloon companies in Cappadocia. I can not imagine that they would all be booked out, but I guess that is a risk.
We shopped around and found that all the prices were much of a muchness, but then a local friend said he had a "cousin" who worked for one and he would look after us.
He did, and we paid about half the normal rates.
We then had to wait for 3 days to get suitable weather (no one was flying), but it was well worth the wait.

Cheers,
Peter

It's worth shopping around/asking locally. Your hotel may be able to offer a recommendation, or a discount with a connected firm. Don't be afraid to ask for a reduction if you book direct. I would be astonished if all the firms are booked out. Balloon flights are a licence to print money for the local firms, and in my experience they will lay on as many balloons as there's demand for. In summer, many balloons offer an early ascent and a later descent - they can fill the balloons twice a day.

If you book directly in Cappadocia, you will spare some money. There are many air balloon companies, so there is no risk to find everything sold out.

Advice above is good, but misses one essential point. You should book your flight for as soon as possible after you arrive. Then, if for any reason (weather, usually) a flight is cancelled one day they'll put you on the next day's flight.

Thanks guys! Still haven't heard from anyone so looking like we will arrange it when we arrive. We were already going to book for for our 2nd morning there (arriving by overnight bus so I figured the 1st morning wasn't an option) so then we have another day or two incase of bad weather :)
