Hello all

any recommendation for a nice, safe, reasonably priced hotel for a single female traveller in Istambul (possibly with airport pick-up)?
On Fridays, what can one do in Istanbul? Any tip? Is there normal touristic activity possible?

Thanks!

I'm curious. You don't say where you're coming from, give no idea of your travel experience, don't tell us which airport you're arriving at and don't appear to know anything at all about Istanbul.
Moreover - you didn't seem concerned to find a 'safe' place in Australia, or airport pick-up - so why Istanbul in particular?
How about telling us a bit more about your budget, your interests, when you're going, which airport, etc...

Well "mothercourage", I actually do know quite something about Istanbul, that´s why I wanted to go there! Simply would like to check if there are hotel recommendations. (By the way, "safe" - apart from nice and central - because of to the recent IS activities in August there. You might have heard from that. My country´s external affairs webpage mentions safety warnings currently. In Australia there aren´t any. And: I preferred airport pick-ups there as well when I arrived late at night... as well as elswhere in the world).
I ´ve travelled 51 countries backpacking so far. So, really not too much need to worry about my travel experience :-)
Thanks in advance to those who want to answer my 2 questions: Nice hotel recommendation? What to do on a Friday in Istanbul?

  1. You still haven't told us which airport. There are TWO in Istanbul, on opposite sides of the city. Also, what time you're arriving, as public transport is excellent between 06.00 and 12.00 midnight.

  2. My country also has warnings about Turkey - but none of them relate to Istanbul. The problems - such as they are - are all in the south-east of the country. And the majority of them relate to the PKK, a Kurdish group, not Daesh (the so-called ISIL)To be super-safe just stay away from police stations, army bases and embassies - though that is over-egging the pudding somewhat. (To put things into perspective - there was a murder just round the corner from me in Chelsea, London, a couple of weeks ago. It didn't even wake me.)

  3. AFAIK all and any hotels/hostels in Istanbul are safe. Some offer transport - but at a much inflated rate.
What is your daily accommodation budget?

  4. You can do EVERYTHING you want to do in Istanbul on a Friday, except visit the Blue Mosque before the Friday midday prayer.

Have you really back-packed to 51 countries? You sound terribly naive for one with so much proclaimed experience.

So - which airport, and what's your budget? If we don't know either we can't help.

But if you want to do your own research, feel free.

Clue 1: IST is the airport code for Ataturk airport, on the European side. SAW is the code for Sabiha Gokcen airport, on the Asian side. .
Clue 2. Four Seasons is a very nice, very expensive hotel in Sultanahmet - right in the heart of the historical district. Otherwise, try a hostel booking site and read the reviews.

Hi
Thanks. I know, I just don´t think it doesn´t matter which aiport. If a hotel offers transport I assume it would be to either of them...
Just need some recommendations to check then if they fit my budget - and check their availability.

Yes, it matters! Don't make assumptions.
There are several thousand hotels in Istanbul. NO-ONE is going to give you a recommendation without knowing your budget range.

Oh yes it does.

Time of arrival is imprtant also. You don't want to cross the bosphorus bridge at rush hour.

If you arriving at SAW you can use public transportation (havats+ferry+tram) to get to Sultan Ahmed.

Sorry. I have never used a hotel in Istanbul so I can NOT answer that question. By the what do you mean by "a reasonable price"
