Hi - what are my options (bus, train) for getting from Selcuk to Fethiye? I was planning on leaving in the morning to get to Fethiye harbor for a gulet cruise leaving that same day, but now I am advised that I may not make it in time (11 AM), and should take a night bus that prior evening.

Also, I had planned to night bus from Istanbul to Selcuk, but is there a ferry to Izmir and overland from there to Selcuk that is more pleasant? What bus company do you recommend for the most comfortable night bus to Selcuk from Istanbul?

Comments on this are welcome, in addition to recommendations on what to do for 3 free days between Fethiye and Antalya. We like beaches, and have heard that Kas is nice, but we will have just finished a 3 day gulet cruise. Something with flavor, without hordes or tourists would be good. We fly out of Antalya, so must go there for the airplane. Thanks so much!

Yes, you should probably get there via night bus or go the day before.

For places to go afterwards: Patara and/or Cirali.

There are no beaches in Kas. Who is your travel adviser?

Without hordes in high season? Get real!

There are no ferries from Izmir to Istanbul.

Bus companies are pretty much all the same.

you will have to leave the night before to get from selcuk to fethiye.

most comfortable company would be ulusoy, which (funnily enough) is also the most expensive - but there is not a great difference in price, so its worth the extra lira if you want maximum comfort and the best snacks...

kabak is very nice - but it will be a bit of a backtrack to fethiye. like #1 said - i reckon cirali is your best bet.

You definitely can't make it to Fethiye from Selcuk for an 11am departure time. The journey is about 5 hours. Plan to get there the night before, or take a night bus.

From Istanbul, an option would be to take a ferry/sea bus to Yalova & pick up a bus from there. I agree on Cirali beach, for your free days between Fethiye & Antalya.

There is an excellent overnight ferry from istanbul to Izmir, then train to Selcuk (for Ephesus).

www.seat61.com/Turkey2.htm</a> for trains, www.denizline.com</a> for the ferry.
