Family trip to Turkey in July 2017

Thank you all for the valuable input. We have tweaked our schedule and increased our time in Turkey by another 3 days. Looking forward to planning this, and then visiting in July.

Thank you, all, for your valuable advice. We flew to Trabzon, and then drove to Uzungol, where we stayed for 3 days. While the town is crawling with tourists, it was lovely nevertheless, and a good base for day trips around the area. We stayed at Huseyin Inan Bungalow & Motel, which was decent. Their bungalows are horrible, but the hotel is nice.

Next, we went to Ayder, where we also stayed for 3 days, at the Kackar Resort. That was lovely, and the area is extremely peaceful and serene. The town is bustling with tourists, but the hotel is out of town and quite nice.

Then, back to Trabzon airport and on to Istanbul.

We didn't rent a car, preferring to use local tour operators and taxis all the way through. Worked out beautifully.
