Hi there bit of a strange question but is the dry cleaning in Turkey the same as other western countries? Reason I ask is that it is really expensive in Australia and not having much luggage to bring I was going to bring my work jackets with me. A non Turkish friend in Istanbul though has warned me against saying "your clothes end up coming back smaller" and "they use a lot of steam water". Is this really the case?

Have any travellers had clothes dry cleaned while in Turkey. Sarikanarya I'm sure you'll be able to give me an honest answer - I must say that my friend, as lovely as she is, lives more on the cautious and paranoid side of life so I'm not sure whether to trust the warn ing?

Clothes come back smaller? The only time I've experienced that is when I've washed stuff! My husband has several....ahem... minature sweaters I'm afraid :)
I have used dry cleaners many times with no problems at all.I have a very nice pure wool winter coat which I've had cleaned maybe 4 or 5 times now after each winter and it comes back great.Husband has one particularly good suit which I dare not wash(the others get thrown in the washing machine with no fears)and that too always comes back very nice.I also send my heavy sheep wool filled traditional quilt to them too each spring and that too has never suffered anything bad,it is old now but still looks good.
So I think you can take your jackets to them with out worrying :)

Thank you Sarikarnarya I knew you'd give me an honest and comparitive answer. The last thing I needed was to wreck my work clothes - fingers crossed I now pick a goody.

Hi Sarikarnarya just an update - 3 jackets and one skirt now all nicely cleaned at the recommendation of a local friend for who I should go to. It was way cheaper than Australia and I have to say one of the jackets looks better than it has in a long time. Oh dear I thought I was wearing cream but now it's a real cream :)

I also bought shoes to get fixed - they were done at a fraction of the price I'd pay here (15 TL vs 35 AUD I'd say) so I'm super happy and also happy giving these hard workers a bit extra along the way too.
