I'm interested to know if there is an easy way to connect to the internet in istanbul without having to commit to a contract with an internet provider company. I'm mostly interested in receiving my mail ,so a dialup connection would suffice (telephone line available at a friends home). If there is not such thing as dialup without monthly fees, how much would monthly costs be for either a dsl or a dialup connection?

Dial 200 3 146 from a local line. Any place.
You are online.
Pay as you are speaking on a local line later on your invoice.

If you're staying somewhere central, just go to your nearest 'Starbucks' , get your favourite coffee and open your laptop (I hope that's what you have) to a free wireless internet. Other major/fancy coffee places or cafe's may also have wireless accessable for you.
