Hý-
Can someone settle a frýendly argument? We are ýn Turkey rýght now, and for the last couple of nýghts, we've notýced býrds or bats flyýng about the mýnarets at the Blue Mosque and the Aya Sofýa, apparently eatýng the ýnsects attracted by the lýghts. Does anyone know ýf these are býrds or bats? We got as close as we could, but could not defýnýtývely tell. We dýsagree amongst our party, and now every týme we see a býrd--ýn person, woven ýnto a carpet, whatever -- someone says: oh, check out that cool lookýng bat!
Thanks!

I live at almost the same latitude as Istanbul. During the day at this time of year there are usually plenty of swallows/swifts etc (I'm no ornithologist) flying around the sky, but at dusk they disappear and are replaced by bats. There may be a short window when both are out, but if it's nightime, they're bats.

FYI, I promise you that every time you send an email to someone using that accented 'y' key you're annoying the crap out of them. There's an 'i' on there somewhere - find it!
