buongiorno
would someone know how long the bus takes from iszimr to afyon and if the connection is rather frequent or not? thanks for your help
marco

I would say about 2 hours.yes, there are frequent buses from Izmir to Afyon but from Afyon to where? if it is to a major city such as Ankara or Istanbul you should have frequent connections.

thx for your reply. i want to go to avyon to take a train there to adana or gazi natep, from there to aleppo.
if i stopover in izmir i ll buy you a drink :)
Take a bus to Gaziantep instead.Turkish trains are very slow.
Thanks for the drink Marco, let me know if and when you will be around.
There are cheap flights from Izmir to Adana (Sun Express) or from Istanbul Gökce to Gaziantep (Pegasusairlines.com). The change bus/train in Afyon makes sense in the case you arrive from Ancona by boat via Cesme and want to catch the Toros Express for Gaziantep (if you managed to book a sleeper from Italy). Otherwise you don't need to go up to Gaziantep. An alternative could be a bus ride from Izmir to Ankara and the night train Ankara (pt 20.15) - Adana (ar 8.05). At Adana Otogar you find plenty of buses to Antakya and sometimes even to Aleppo or Beirut.
It is much easier to cross the Syrian border via Antakya. There is no public transport between Antep and Aleppo, whereas there are many buses, minibuses and service taxis between Antakya resp. Aleppo and the border. You can also go from Antakya to Lattakia (Ugarit). There are some nice beaches on the way (on the Syrian side).
