I’d recommend LP Haystack service for booking accommodations. Haystack is similar to other booking services, but they have signed reviews by LP personnel. I selected Cordial House Hotel (not listed in LP10) which is near the Grand Bazaar. I paid about 73 USD for 3 nights. Clean, quiet, & very plain. Iinterest access (including wireless) in common area. Convenient to the tram, Cemberlitas station, and in easy walking distance to the major sites. Didn’t include breakfast, but they do serve a breakfast. They offer most services. They have dorms. My single room had 3 beds, no chair, so I assume they’re experiencing low occupancy now. They don’t have a shared kitchen, which seems a little unusual for a place registered with Hosteling International. The staff is attentive. They have a person to help with travel plans.

Cordial House has the best location and decent services. What turned me off about the place is that they charge a commission for people paying in anything but Euros. That's right, they charge you more if you want to pay in Turkish lira by coverting your Turkish lira to Euros at less than the going exchange rate. When I complained, the reception clerk didn't even try to offer a justification.
